I have some bad news, our donor backed out. I think it's for the best. The donor for my dad was an ex-boyfriend of mine. Yeah, you can imagine the situation..
We have been broken up for five years. He kept intouch with my mom more so than with me. We knew he was a blood and antigen match and he only had to go thru a few more tests. I hope it wasn't my fault he backed out. He said it was because his family wasn't giving him the proper support (maybe because we used to date and his family didn't like the idea) and he hadn't accrued enough vacation days at work. Besides, I wouldn't want someone donating, who's family didn't support him. I understand. It's for the better. Some people thought my ex-boyfriend was doing it for the wrong reasons, maybe he was. I'll never know, but it doesn't matter now. Our family has to focus on finding the right donor.
My dad's has someone who is willing to look into paired donation.

I'm sorry to hear about the backout. Has he made any progress on the donor swap you mentioned? Where are you located geographically?
What type blood donors can donate?
I guess you don't have a lot of family members who are able to consider donating?
Good luck! My positive thoughts are with you.
My brother who is 28 was the next donor in line, and we found during a sonogram screening that he also has PKD. I am next up in the donor pool. I have been sonogramed and the doctors didn't see anything in the sonogram, so I am skipping straight to the CT Angiogram which is happening tomorrow. The doctor will be able to see any cysts that could be very small and it's a step I would take anyway to be a donor. They will still have me do genetic testing before they allow me to go forward. My dad is O+. We are in Cincinnati. The transplant coordinator has my dad in the swap system as well but they liked the idea of going forward with me because she said things could move faster. (I don't know why.) My mom is an A blood type so in this matter she of no use to us, she has also had something else that rules her out. Most of the people on my mom's side of the family have heart conditions, high blood pressure etc.
It's good to read your blog and share with my dad.
How is your cousin who donated doing?
